About the department:

The Fundamentals of Nursing department is considered as one of the basic and most important part of every college of Nursing. It focuses on preparing skilful nurses with a healing touch. The department is convinced about moulding the students in acquiring knowledge and competencies required to provide evidence care as the nursing is the art, science and discipline of caring for people through the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health and wholeness across the life span. The essence of nursing involves caring, education, advocacy, ethical behaviour communication, critical thinking, decision making and problem solving, collaboration, and a commitment to life-long learning.

The Fundamental Lab is equipped with all the articles, models, charts & various dummies to learn about all the nursing basic care skills essential for the care of the adults.. The department provides clinical and class room teaching for undergraduate, post graduate & diploma in nursing students.

Objectives:

The objectives of department of fundamentals of nursing are to:

• Develop understanding about the concept of health, illness and scope of nursing within health care services
• Apply values, code of ethics and professional conduct in professional life.
• Apply the principles and methods of effective communication in establishing communication links with patients, families and other health team members.
• Develop the skills in recording and reporting.
• Demonstrate competency in monitoring and documenting vital signs.
• Develop understanding about fundamentals of health assessment in supervised clinical settings.
• Describe the principles and techniques of infection control and biomedical waste management.
• Identify and meet the comfort needs of the patients.
• Perform admission, transfer and discharge of a patient under supervision applying the knowledge.
• Demonstrate understanding and application of knowledge in caring patients with restricted mobility.
• Identify the educational needs of patients and demonstrate basic skills of patient health education.

FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING LAB- PRACTICAL

1. Aims:

• Practical training in fundamental lab equips students with essential knowledge, skills and attitude needed to provide accurate, safe and comprehensive nursing care for normal adult.
• The lab provides students with a realistic, stimulated clinical environment to practice and demonstrate competency of selected nursing skills.

2. Objectives:

1. Provide hands on learning experience specific to course objectives as directed by the nursing curriculum.
2. To prepare students for handling well and sick patient in a technically safe environment.
3. To provide opportunity for learning and practicing various basic nursing procedures.
4. To make the students informed regarding modern health care practices and guidelines/protocols.
5. Increase preparedness of the nursing students before introduction to hospital training.
6. Provide students with the nursing skills that are necessary to care for the patient during the physiological or pathological events
7. To reinforce learning using simulation technology and related resources.
