Philosophy
Absolutely, the emphasis on psychiatric nursing programs is critical in todays healthcare landscape. By equipping students with a solid foundation in the principles and concepts of mental health nursing, these programs play a crucial role in addressing the complexities of psychiatric illnesses. In our department of mental health nursing, we are dedicated to ensuring that our curriculum not only covers theoretical knowledge but also incorporates practical skills necessary for effective patient care. Our aim is to cultivate compassionate, skilled, and knowledgeable healthcare professionals who can make a difference in the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges.
Furthermore, preparing nursing students for practice both in India and abroad is essential, as mental health issues are a global concern. By providing a comprehensive education in psychiatric nursing, we enable our graduates to adapt to various healthcare systems and cultural contexts, enhancing their ability to deliver care that is respectful and responsive to the diverse needs of patients. Aim
The aim of the mental health and psychiatric nursing program is to equip graduate registered nurses with the specialized knowledge and skills necessary to excel in diverse roles within mental health care.
Objectives
At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- Apply the nursing process in the care of patients with mental disorders in hospital and community.
- Demonstrate advanced skills/ competence in nursing management of patients with mental disorders.
- Identify and manage psychiatric emergencies.
- Demonstrate skills in carrying out crisis intervention.
- Appreciate the legal and ethical issues pertaining to psychiatric nursing.
- Describe various types of alternative systems of medicines used in psychiatric settings.
