About the department:
Child Health Nursing is a specialty which focuses on nursing care of children, both normal and sick. The objective of the course is to prepare students to identify the normal growth and development of children and deviation from the normal, give comprehensive nursing care to children suffering from various diseases.
The Department of Child health nursing focused on fostering to enhance the knowledge and skill of the students in pediatric medical and surgical wards apart from theory classes. The department imparts them as exemplary child health nurse.
The Child Health Lab is equipped with all articles, models, charts & various play therapy materials, here students learn about all the nursing care skills essential for the care of the newborn, infants & children. The department is provides clinical and class room teaching for undergraduate, post graduate & diploma in nursing students.
Objectives:
The objectives of department of child health nursing are to:

Impart quality education to the students in the field of child care.

Prepare the students to become nursing leader and efficient professional nurses in the various health centers.

Emphasize the importance of health education for preparing the professional nurses to increase the individual, family and community towards achieving the optimal health.

Organize developmental programs for the staff of the department in order to enhance their knowledge and skill.

Contribute to the body of knowledge through research, health educations and publications.

To identify the difference between adult and child in care, approach and treatment.

To provide care for children with special consideration to growth, development and maturity.

To analyze the importance of prevention of illness and the remedial measures towards the same.

CHILD HEALTH (PEDIATRIC) LAB- PRACTICAL
1. Aims:

Practical training in pediatric lab equips students with essential knowledge, skills and attitude needed to provide accurate, safe and comprehensive nursing care for normal child.

The lab provides students with a realistic, stimulated clinical environment to practice and demonstrate competency of selected nursing skills.
2. Objectives:

Provide hands on learning experience specific to course objectives as directed by the nursing curriculum.

To prepare students for handling well and sick children in a technically safe environment.

To provide opportunity for learning and practicing various child health nursing procedures.

To make the students informed regarding modern child care practices and guidelines/protocols.

Increase preparedness of the nursing students before introduction to hospital training.

To provide basic and advanced skill related to Child Health Nursing.

Provide students with the nursing skills that are necessary to care for the child during the physiological or pathological events

To reinforce learning using simulation technology and related resources.

As a Pediatric nurse they can devote their knowledge and skills to caring for children from infancy through the late teen years and their families.

Students will be able to collaborate closely with physicians and other health care providers who share their dedication to children’s health.

They can perform physical examinations, measure vital statistics, take blood and urine samples and order diagnostic tests.

Students can also practice in the community groups and other organizations that provide outpatient and preventive health care services for children, including children who have limited access to health care.
