“Antioxidant Response of Plants under Abiotic Stress”
24th – 29th February 2020
Department of Botany and Biotechnology in collaboration with Department of Chemistry and Zoology organized a one week workshop on “Antioxidant Response of Plants under Abiotic Stress” from 24th February to 29th February 2020. The objective of the workshop was to bring the students of Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology and Chemistry on a single platform for interaction about plant biochemical response. The workshop was inaugurated with lamp lighting by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. N.K Ahuja, Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sharma, Dean, Science College, Chief Guest Dr. Ashok Kumar, Associate Professor, CCS University, Meerut, Dr. Manoj Kapil, Principal Engineering College and Organizing Secretary Dr. Vagish Mishra.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. N.K Ahuja addressed the participants and shared his views on plants and their importance to human beings. Dr. Vagish Mishra welcomed all the faculty and participants from various colleges and briefed them about the objectives of the workshop. He also discussed about the role of antioxidants in managing the stress in plants.
Dr. Ashok Kumar, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut in his presentation focused on the various types of stress the plants undergo in the environment and how they overcome such stress.
Dr. Akash Tomar, Senior Scientist, Department of Biotechnology, Sardar Valabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture, Meerut presented a very informative topic “The Role of Structural Genomics, Epigenomics & Genome Organization in Crop Biology”. He focused on how the genetic makes the plant to response against abiotic stress in different food and cash crops.
Dr. Lalit Krishan Meena, Scientist, (Plant Physiology), ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming System Research, Meerut in his presentation told about the physiological response against stress in agricultural crops. He also discussed about the role of chlorophyll, carotenoids and proline content in abiotic stress. Along with these interactive and informative sessions technical sessions and hands-on training for the participants was held. The highlights were – Chlorophyll and Carotenoid extraction and quantification, Proline extraction and quantification and calculation of Chlorophyll, Carotenoid and Proline contents.
During the valedictory session on 29th Feb, 2020, certificates were given to all the participants and vote of thanks was extended to all committee members and participants for successfully organizing the workshop.
