It’s our pleasure to welcome you at Department of Agriculture at Keral Verma Subharti College of Science. Our department is dedicated to advancing our understanding of agriculture and using that knowledge to develop sustainable and innovative solutions to the challenges facing our world. In our department, we are offering courses as per NEP B.Sc. Agriculture, B.Sc. Animal Husbandry and B.Sc. Fisheries.

Our faculty members are experts in a variety of fields, including agronomy, soil science, horticulture, genetics and plant breeding, entomology, plant pathology, animal science, agricultural economics and extension education. We are committed to providing our students with a comprehensive and practical education in agriculture that prepares them for a variety of careers in research, industry, and policy.

Our curriculum is designed to develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills, as well as to provide a strong foundation in the scientific principles that underpin agriculture. We provide exposure to the students to various extension activities, as well as opportunities to participate in research projects and internships.

The program is to get the students acquainted with various facets of agriculture and its related specializations in the well-equipped laboratories. The main aim of this program is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge to students and train them in all aspects of agriculture. Our department is also committed to engaging with the wider agricultural community. We regularly host guest lectures, seminars, and workshops, and collaborate with industry partners and government agencies to address pressing agricultural challenges.

Academic and Industrial visits to ICAR-Institutes, hands-on experience in the laboratories, experimental plots and fields within and outside the university are part of the curriculum. The department is known for its outstanding research activities particularly in the field of Plant Pathology, Physiology, Biochemistry, Agriculturally important microorganisms and other thrust areas of Agriculture.

The college has well established horticulture and agronomy setup including nurseries, green house, vermin composting units and farm lands. Faculty members are regularly involved in research projects in collaboration with government research organization such as National Research Centre for Plant Biotechnology, I.A.R.I. New Delhi. The Department ensures quality education and healthy environment for students. Excursion tours, industrial and academic visits are regularly planned for the students to have an exposure of the subject.

• Administrative jobs: The agriculture aspirants can pursue their carrier in administrative roles. Professionals who perform these roles manage and provide support for laborer in the agricultural industry. They manage offices, correspond with clients and maintain legal and financial documentation. As part of their duties, administrative professionals may perform bookkeeping and accounting tasks. They may also work with human resources professionals and insurance companies.
• Agriculture Engineer: Agriculture graduate get as Engineering job roles involve using high-level technical and mathematical skills to solve complex engineering problems in the domain of agriculture. These professionals evaluate, design, test and install systems, tools and a range of equipment. They also oversee manufacturing and maintenance processes. In agriculture, most engineers specialize in mechanical, environmental or structural engineering.

• Agronomist: agronomist utilize the best practices that can improve the production of food items and consumables. They may act as the bridge between farmers and agricultural researchers. They may have comprehensive knowledge of subjects related to farming like ecology, genetics, biology, chemistry and economics. Agronomists mostly spend their time in a lab conducting experiments, but also communicate with farmers to understand their concerns and problems.
• Animal Production and Management: Animal husbandry can pursue their career as a livestock producer are concerned with production of cattle, sheep, goat, horses and poultry.
• Entrepreneurs: As agriculture graduate you can create, own and manage businesses and perform a variety of functions to keep them profitable. They identify and incorporate new tools, equipment and technology to optimize yield and reduce the industry's dependence on manual labor. A select number of universities provide courses in agricultural business management to help new entrepreneurs start a career in the field.
• Agricultural equipment technicians: you will be responsible for assembling, dismantling, repairing and maintaining farm machinery and vehicles. They may work on units like harvesters and tractors or larger infrastructure like irrigation systems. All farms require technicians to keep their machinery and equipment in working condition. They may also maintain inventory for parts and records of repairs and services.
• Horticulturists: By utilizing the scientific knowledge to grow fruits, vegetables and ornamental crops. They work to maximize the growth and output of crops and often experiment with improved genetic variations of plants to achieve better results. They investigate the effect of pests and diseases on different types of crops. A horticulturist may work with planners, architects and designers in the field of landscaping, to create parks, gardens and recreational areas. You may advise consumers and small business owners as a consultant on best farming and landscaping practices. You can work in various domains like sales, marketing, retail, teaching and farming.
• Agricultural specialist: As professionals you can advise and assist farmers and agricultural companies. They may have extensive knowledge about various topics related to farming like crop cycles, soil fertility, crop rotation, soil and water problems, best practices in cultivation and harvesting, animal husbandry and nutrition. They can work in premier government and private institutions like NABARD, Amul and ITC.
