Department of Biotechnology was established in 2011 with aim to generate trained manpower in the area of Biotechnology, Microbiology and Genetic Engineering and attempts to integrate Research and Teaching in the subject. The department also develops strong infrastructure for basic and applied research in its allied field of Genomics, Proteomics, Plant and animal Biotechnology. Attempts are made that the students are empowered technologically and imparted skills to be at par with global standard having the state-of-art laboratories in Biotechnology; which are well equipped with the facilities of Molecular Biology, Plant Tissue Culture, Biochemistry and Microbiology. The qualified and dedicated staff of the Department plays a significant role providing in depth theoretical and practical knowledge of Biotechnology to develop practical skills in students, related to their career opportunities. The Department is headed by Dr. Sarika Maheshwari, who is actively engaged along with the other members of the Department in pursuing the students for their academic excellence and innovation in teaching and research. The Department offers teaching Biotechnology at Under-graduate and Post-graduate level leading to B Sc and M Sc degree.
Department of Biotechnology offers UG and PG courses in Biotechnology. The curriculum of M.Sc. course includes 04-06 months compulsory training during the 4th semester. The Department provides state of art infrastructure for PG students to conduct research work for dissertation and provide guidance for interpretation, analysis and publication of results. As a testimony to the mission and enterprise, the department also offers the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) program which is designed for students who wish to pursue research careers. The University library as well as the Department is well stocked with wide range of books, manuals, reports and journals in all the core areas of research. Department of Biotechnology aims to create a conductive, enabling, academic environment to facilitate integration of younger generation into logic of present system. Faculty members encourage PG students to attend workshops/Conferences to get insight of novel trends and innovations. To sensitize its faculty and students on its social responsibilities the department organizes workshops on emerging issues as raising awareness on AIDS and addressing issue of global hunger on world Food day. Educational tours are organized where students participate enthusiastically. The Department has strong research and Lab facilities and latest equipments as: Microprocessor Based Centrifuge, Orbital Shaking Incubator, Deep freezer, Laminar Air Flow, BOD incubator, (Biological Oxygen Demand), Thermal cycler, Spectrophotometer, Gel Documentation System, Gel Electrophoresis equipments, Digital weighing balance. The Department proposes to develop Labs for soil testing for the benefit of farmers.
