The advances in information technology compelled the library professionals to equip themselves with the latest information and communication technology. The setting up of the department is an attempt in that direction to create more and more qualified library staff duly trained in latest technology. The department was established in 2008 with Bachelor’s course in Library and Information Science. The rousing support and popularity of the course moved the University administration to the extent that it introduced the Postgraduate (M. Lib., ISC) & M. Phil. course in 2009. Another pioneering step in the progress of the department was the introduction of research programme leading to the degree of Ph.D in 2010. A special feature of the Department is the adoption of updated curricula with an emphasis on Information Technology and the training of a number of library automation software packages.

 

The exponential growth of the department owes a great deal to the committed and competent faculty members and undoubtedly the vision of university and management.
