About the Chair

The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair was established on 1st February 2020 with the help of funding received from the International Buddha Educational Institute.

The main objective of this Chair is to provide a well-equipped Centre of learning to intellectuals, academicians and students to undertake studies and research with an intention to understand, assess and disseminate ideas and thoughts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The chair aims at subjects such as Economics, Political Science, Religion, Philosophy, Constitutional Studies, Education, Social Work, Human Rights as well as other disciplines considered relevant for the attainment of our National Goal of Social Justice, as envisioned by Dr. Ambedkar.

Objective

The focus of research and teaching remains on the deprived sections of the Indian Society. The Chair will also undertake research and higher studies concerning the socioeconomic and cultural life of the marginalized groups and other weaker sections of the society. As an outcome of this, the chair strives to develop appropriate methodologies to translate Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s ideas into practical propositions and policy instruments.

Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chair has also set up a Library and Reading room for teachers and students of the university and scholars and other readers outside the university so that an increasing number of people become acquainted with the thoughts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Chair Activities

The activities by the chair compare and contrast Dr. B.R. Amebedkar’s philosophy with other Social Thinkers of India and encouraged publishing, training and extension activities on and about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and social issues.
