FOOD TECHNOLOGY

Department of Food Technology

Department of Food Technology runs an undergraduate programme in Food Technology. It is a four years full time degree course. The course deals with various applications of Food Science and Technologies like preservation, storage, processing, selection and packaging of the food products, the food safety, storage of food products, increasing the shelf life of food products, microbiological, and physical composition of food. During the course students learn to collect and collate data regarding food consumption, incidence and prevalence of biological risk, contaminants in food, and residues of various contaminants in foods products, identification of emerging risks and introduction of rapid alert system. The course also provides training programmes to students who are involved or intend to get involved in food businesses.

Food Technology Department has been organizing industrial visits on a regular basis according to syllabus and ordinance. These visits have been organized in different semesters of the course that contributes to the development of international standards for food, sanitary and hygiene.
